Ingredients & Their Magic
- 2 tbsp olive oil — healing, peace, money, protection, good luck, fertility
- 1 large onion, diced — protection, stability, prosperity. When cut open and left in a room, onion absorbs sickness. Bury it the morning after.
- 3 cloves garlic, minced — healing, protection, purification
- 3 medium carrots, diced (or 10 baby carrots) — fertility, lust
- 3 stalks celery, diced — mental & psychic powers, lust, fertility, male potency
- 3 medium potatoes, peeled & diced — calm upset stomach, healing, luck, money
- 4 cups vegetable broth
- 1 can (8 oz.) tomato paste — love
- 1 cup corn — protection, divination, good luck
- 1 can (15 oz.) kidney beans, drained & rinsed — healing, love, endurance, wisdom
- 1 bay leaf — psychic powers, protection, good fortune, success, purification, strength, healing
- 1–2 tbsp basil — love, wealth, protection
- ½ tsp salt — protection, purification, cleansing
- ½ tsp pepper — protection, banish negative energy, courage, ward off jealousy
- A drop or two of lemon juice — to finish
Method
- Heat the olive oil in a large soup or roasting pot over medium-low heat.
- When hot, add the onion and garlic. Season with salt. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring clockwise, until the garlic is very fragrant and the onion softens.
- Add the celery, carrots, and potatoes. Continue stirring clockwise and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add the broth, tomato paste, corn, kidney beans, bay leaf, basil, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 40 minutes, or until all vegetables are tender.
- Remove from heat. Stir in a drop or two of lemon juice and season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Remove the bay leaf before serving.
- Serve hot with bread or crackers, and eat with gratitude.
A Note on Kitchen Witchery
The act of cooking is itself a ritual. As you chop, stir, and simmer, you are weaving intention into every layer of this soup. Speak your healing wishes aloud as you add each ingredient. Stir always clockwise — to draw in health, warmth, and protection. Share it with someone who needs it, or savour it alone as an act of self-care magic.
May this bowl bring healing to body, mind, and spirit. 🌿
