Mabon Hot Apple Cider
Jules NakonecznyjA Cup Full of Autumn Magic
If there is one drink that captures the essence of Mabon, it’s hot apple cider. The scent alone — warm apple, cinnamon, clove, and citrus — is enough to shift the energy of a room and call in the spirit of the autumn equinox. This version is sweetened with real maple syrup and infused with a bundle of whole spices, making it as intentional as it is delicious.
Make a big pot and share it. This is a drink meant for gathering.
Ingredients & Their Magic
- 6 cups apple cider — love, healing, wisdom, immortality, connection to the Goddess and the harvest
- ¼ cup real maple syrup — abundance, sweetness, prosperity, drawing in good things
- 2 cinnamon sticks — prosperity, success, love, psychic awareness, raising vibration, warmth
- 6 whole cloves — protection, banishing negativity, love, money, stopping gossip
- 6 whole allspice berries — luck, healing, money, determination, energy
- 1 orange peel, cut into strips — joy, abundance, prosperity, solar energy, good luck
- 1 lemon peel, cut into strips — cleansing, purification, love, uplifting energy, clarity
Method
- Pour the apple cider and maple syrup into a large pot. Stir gently to combine — as you do, set your intention for the drink. What are you calling in this Mabon season?
- Gather your whole spices and citrus peels and bundle them into a square of cheesecloth. Tie it closed with kitchen string. This is your spice sachet — think of it like a tea bag, or a little charm bag for your cider. Hold it in your hands for a moment and breathe your intention into it before dropping it into the pot.
- Place the pot over medium heat. Let it warm slowly for 5–10 minutes until the cider is steaming and fragrant. Don’t let it boil — you want it hot and inviting, not agitated.
- Once it’s beautifully hot and your kitchen smells like autumn itself, remove from heat. Fish out and discard the spice bundle — it’s done its work.
- Ladle into mugs and tuck a fresh cinnamon stick into each one if you like. Serve immediately, while it’s steaming.
Ritual Notes
This cider is wonderful served during the cakes and ale portion of a Mabon ritual, or simply passed around a fire circle as an act of community and warmth. As you hand each person their mug, you might say: “May this cup bring you warmth, abundance, and gratitude.”
It also pairs beautifully with the Crescent Cakes or alongside the Mabon Harvest Stew for a full seasonal feast.
